Silver Jewellery Making: A complete step-by-step course

A new book by local jewellers Janet Richardson and Machi de Waard was published by award-winning craft publisher Search Press on 1 February 2021.

Silver Jewellery Making is a practical beginners' guide to making silver jewellery. Seven step-by-step projects guide you through the core skills and techniques that will enable you to progress to making your own beautiful jewellery.

The tried-and-tested projects have been developed by Machi and Janet, who have over 40 years of industry experience teaching others this amazing craft. The emphasis is on teaching good practice and acquiring the basic techniques and skills to give the reader a solid basis for developing their jewellery-making capabilities.

Tools are introduced for each individual project, and their uses and correct handling explained. Troubleshooting tips explain how to overcome common problems that may arise. At the end of each project, there are examples of how the skills gained can be used to make other items.

The book is perfect for those who wish to start jewellery making either on their own or as a supplement to classes.

Silver Jewellery Making (ISBN 978-1-78221-735-0) is available from:

Cookham and Maidenhead Arts Trail 2023

After being unable to run the show last year, due to key members of the Committee of volunteers being unwell, we are back and all fit and well! So, I am thrilled to say we will be holding the Cookham and Maidenhead Arts Trail (CAMAT) this year on the weekend of 9th-10th September.

We have a record number of 49 participants, with both new artists and new venues joining us, which is fantastic.

As usual we will have artists displaying a range of different styles and media, including acrylic, watercolour, oils, glass, ceramic and more.

This is a great opportunity for members of the public to engage with the artists, enjoy the artworks and perhaps buy something special,

Refreshments and demonstrations are available at many venues. Entry is FREE to all venues.

To find out which artists are taking part this year, see Artists List and for a handy map to show all the studios on the trail please see Arts Trail Map.

    Wokingham Arts Trail 2023

The Wokingham Arts Trail provides a platform for local artists to exhibit their work within the Wokingham community and surrounding area and showcases Artists, Jewellers, Ceramicists and Glass.

This will be the 12th year of the Trail and we have new artists as well as some regular ones participating.

We strive to create a varied and interesting experience for visitors by selecting a wide range of artists who create high quality, unique and innovative work.

It is an opportunity for visitors to meet the talented artists and view the work, much of which will be for sale.

By downloading and following the detailed map the venues can be discovered which relate to the corresponding artists, leading to artists' studios and homes. Entry to all is FREE.

The quality of work, most of which will be for sale, is outstanding and this is a wonderful opportunity for the community to meet local artists who will be present to talk about their work. Some venues will be offering refreshments or giving demonstrations too.
